Bad Bunny makes history during Super Bowl halftime performance

Bad Bunny turns Super Bowl halftime into a cultural celebration.

From dancing shrubbery to a real wedding ceremony woven into cultural storytelling, Bad Bunny delivered a historic Super Bowl Halftime show. He made history as the first Latin solo artist to headline the event. He brought Puerto Rico to national television and made a moment feel personal for so many people watching.

This year marked Bad Bunny‘s second Super Bowl appearance after joining Shakira in 2020, but this performance was distinctly his own. The impact reached far beyond the stadium. Dom Dolla, who attended the game, joined hundreds in sharing appreciation online. Excision streamed the halftime set ahead of his Thunderdome event, offering a rare crossover moment that spoke to how widely the performance resonated. The set was performed predominantly in Spanish, with Lady Gaga making a brief appearance for a salsa rendition of her song.

Art and politics have always been intertwined, even when left unsaid. At a time of growing division, Bad Bunny listed countries across North, Central, and South America, as a reminder of shared roots and sense of belonging. The political messaging throughout the performance was more inclusive than confrontational, depicting deep connections across borders.

Bad Bunny’s music has long advocated for Puerto Rico and its people. Visuals inspired by New York highlighted the city’s role as a cultural crossroads, while his performance of El Apagón balanced infectious energy with themes rooted in the island’s ongoing struggles around infrastructure, displacement, and resilience.

Instead of adjusting himself for a broader audience, he leaned fully into who he is and who his music represents. With the words “The only thing more powerful than hate is love” appearing on screen, Benito stood amongst a parade of flags, inviting everyone to join in celebration and connection.

The response online speaks for itself. Many felt represented and seen for the first time. Music continues to heal, and this performance proved just how powerful that can be. Bad Bunny’s halftime show is certainly one that will be talked about for years to come.

My name is Alejandra Benitez and I was born and raised in the DMV. Having close proximity to Washington D.C. means I am accustomed to a fast paced environment as things are constantly changing. For me, the EDM scene has provided so much comfort and space to really find myself even amongst chaos. My first ever show was Zeds Dead and it truly changed my outlook on community and further affirmed my love for music. I am a basshead at heart but enjoy exploring new genres and artists. Being a writer for Exron has given me an amazing opportunity to learn more about the electronic music industry and I love being able to express myself creatively. Some of my favorite artists include Levity, Rezz, Tape B, Disco Lines, and Sub Focus.
