Gorgon City performs surprise set on Groove Cruise after Green Velvet drops out

Gorgon City have turned a last-minute cancellation into Groove Cruise Miami 2026’s first big highlight with a surprise, high‑energy house set.

Groove Cruise 2026 got its first big plot twist before the ship even found open water, when beloved Chicago veteran Green Velvet dropped off the lineup. Undoubtedly, fans wondered who could possibly fill those neon-green shoes. However, Gorgon City stepped up for a last-minute surprise set that turned into a peak moment.

Clips from the ship show one half of the UK duo behind the decks, with fans crowding railings to catch the unannounced appearance. Social posts from attendees lauded the set as the schedule re-shuffled to keep the energy despite Green Velvet’s absence.

Gorgon City has excelled in the intersection of club music and radio appeal, hitting as hard in underground rooms as at festivals. Their 2014 breakthrough single “Ready for Your Love” with MNEK cracked the UK Singles Chart and helped catapult their debut album “Sirens.” Follow-ups like “Imagination” and “There for You” cemented their reputation for emotive, vocal‑driven tracks that still lean into the low‑end.

In recent years, the duo has doubled down on curating their own universe through Realm Records, a label and event brand that spotlights both their own productions and a tight circle of rising house talent. Realm showcases across the globe have kept their calendar packed, while their streams have climbed into the billions. Bringing that pedigree into a surprise set meant the replacement felt like an incredible bonus chapter.

By the end of the surprise set, Gorgon City rewrote the narrative. Unquestionably, Groove Cruise’s last-minute decision reminded everyone aboard of the floating festival’s spontaneous beauty.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 12 consecutive years (still counting). As an avid traveler, I'm definitely not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My current bucket list festivals right now are Tomorrowland in Belgium, Cercle Festival in France, Kappa Futur in Italy, and Sonus in Croatia. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists are Franky Wah, BICEP, Cassian, and Mochakk.
