Skrillex releases surprise 3-track EP on his 38th birthday

Skrillex has entered a new era with a 3-track birthday EP, “Kora.”

Skrillex has given his fans a present on his own birthday with the release of his latest EP, “Kora.” This surprise project features three tracks that were released on January 15th, coinciding with his 38th birthday.

“Kora” was released through OWSLA and Atlantic Records, marking a shift in the artist’s sound towards a more experimental direction. The tracks are masterfully mixed and are described as unique, glitchy, and ambient, as they challenge his traditional dance sounds.

The first track on the EP is “Yo Yan,” which is a two-minute track made in collaboration with Sacred Family. The song replaces the clear formulaic bass line with a distorted one, layering on top shimmering synths and an acoustic guitar melody that carries throughout the track. The second track, “Someone Said,” is an experimental piece which features Varg2™, Eurohead, Whitearmor, & swdm® as collaborators. This tune is a masterclass in contrast as it cuts sharply into aggressive distortion and ethereal arpeggios.

The last song on the EP is named after the album, “Kora.” This track also features Varg2™, Eurohead, and swdm®, as well as vocalist Siiickbrain. The title track contains an infusion of ambient sounds, ahead of Siiickbrain’s taking over the melody with his haunting vocals.

This EP gives listeners a glimpse into what is to come for Skrillex and his sound in 2026. He is moving to a more serious and experimental music direction, which steers away from his radio-ready and festival tracks. While this is the first release in 2026, fans are anticipating more to come. Especially after this project follows the tailwinds of his F*CK U SKRILLEX YOU THINK UR ADY WARHOL BUT UR NOT!! <3 album, which features a whopping 34 tracks.

My favorite thing in the whole world is music and after hearing "One" by Swedish House Mafia for the first time in 2014, I was hooked on EDM. Dance music has been a large part of who I am and will always be searching for new ways to incorporate it in my life. The pure bliss that I feel from live shows is a feeling I never want to stop chasing (iykyk). Some of my favorite artists include Flume, Rüfüs Du Sol, Mindchatter, Gorgon City, Prospa :)
