Inside the rise of independent artist festivals in 2025: Griz, John Summit, Isoknock & more

Independent artist festivals are reshaping electronic music by putting creative control directly into the hands of the artists.

In 2025, the electronic music landscape has changed as more edm artists move away from traditional promoter driven festivals and begin creating their own independent events. These artist led festivals place creative control directly in the hands of artists, allowing them to shape lineups, visuals, and environments that reflect their identities rather than corporate branding. As fans search for more meaningful and authentic experiences, these festivals are becoming a defining trend in the industry.

One of the most talked about examples in 2025 is GRiZ’s return with Seven Stars Festival. After stepping back from touring, GRiZ re emerged with an event that focused on community, creativity, and connection — that was ran by him. The festival blended electronic music with funk, bass, and live instrumentation while also offering wellness activities and interactive experiences. Seven Stars emphasized shared values and artistic exploration, creating a space where fans felt like participants.

John Summit has also joined the movement with Experts Only Festival which reflects his personal journey in dance music. Experts Only showcased underground house and techno artists alongside his own performances, reinforcing the idea that an artist can successfully curate a large scale event without sacrificing authenticity. The festival highlighted how artist driven branding can coexist with commercial success while still prioritizing music culture.

Another standout is ISOKNOCK, the duo made up of ISOxo and Knock2. Their festival, Niteharts, brought their high energy trap and bass sound into a live setting designed specifically for their fanbase. With aggressive visuals, fast paced sets, and a excited crowd, the event is a direct extension of their craft and ability to liveliness without the mainstream. Niteharts demonstrated how independent festivals can grow from grassroots fan communities rather than traditional industry pipelines.

Beyond those names, newer artist driven events are being led by DJ Diesel, Subtronics, and Illenium, each building festivals that mirror their personal brands. Shaq’s Bass All Stars shows, Subtronics’ Cyclops events, and Illenium’s Ember Shores turn their music into full scale fan experiences rather than one off performances. These paths prove that a new generation of EDM artists is using independent events to build culture, loyalty, and long term creative control.

The rise of independent artist festivals in 2025 reflects a broader shift toward creative ownership and community building. These events allow artists to tell their own stories while giving fans a deeper sense of connection. As the industry continues to evolve, artist led festivals are becoming the new norm for edm experiences.
