Griz raises over $200K for music education in Detroit with annual Grizmas
Griz’ GRiZMAS raised more than $200,000 for Detroit youth music education, marking another milestone for the long-running holiday charity initiative.
This year’s GRiZMAS generated $203,757 for kids’ music education in Detroit, with funds benefiting Seven Mile Music. The total underscores how GRiZMAS has grown from a hometown concert into a major community-driven effort rooted in giving back.
Held December 9–20, the 12 Days of GRiZMAS featured a series of community gatherings, charitable events, and activations across the city. For example, on day 3, GRiZMAS hosted an open mic night event, while day 6 consisted of community yoga. Finally, to close out the event series on days 11 and 12, Griz took the stage for the official GRiZMAS parties. Proceeds from events and merchandise went entirely toward supporting music education for local youth.
Sharing the news online, Griz described the final number as “actually an insane number,” emphasizing the collective spirit behind GRiZMAS. He credited fans, volunteers, organizers, and collaborators for creating an atmosphere of generosity and connection throughout the week, calling the experience “magical light energy.” To participants, he said, “you are a clear message of hope to the world.”
GRiZMAS was launched in 2014 as a holiday concert celebrating the artist’s Detroit roots and has since expanded into a 12-day charitable initiative. Over the past decade, Griz’ GRiZMAS has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local foundations, reinforcing its long-term impact on the city’s creative and educational communities.
Following a two-year hiatus while Griz stepped back from touring and releases, this year’s GRiZMAS carried added significance. With its return, GRiZMAS once again positioned music as a tool for community building, proving that the tradition remains a powerful force for positive change in Detroit.
