elrow Bondi Beach XXL canceled following mass shooting
elrow Bondi Beach XXL has been cancelled following the deadly Bondi Beach mass shooting.
The elrow Bondi Beach XXL New Year’s Eve event has been cancelled in the wake of the deadly mass shooting that occurred near Bondi Beach earlier this month, with organizers citing community care and respect for those affected by the tragedy. The decision follows consultations with Waverley Council and comes amid ongoing police investigations into the attack.
In a statement shared on Instagram, @bondinye said the incident had “deeply shaken our community and all who call this place home,” adding that organizers had spent recent days working closely with council authorities while allowing New South Wales Police to continue their investigation.
The post confirmed that all planned New Year’s Eve events at Bondi Beach, including elrow Bondi Beach XXL and the Locals Lawn Family Zone, will no longer go ahead. According to organizers, all ticket holders have been contacted via email, and elrow Bondi Beach XXL ticket holders will receive an automatic refund processed back to their original payment method within seven business days.
The cancellation follows a mass shooting on 14 December at Archer Park beside Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah celebration attended by around 1,000 people. It’s currently being reported that 15 people were killed, including a child, and dozens more were injured. Authorities declared the attack an antisemitic terrorist incident, the deadliest terror attack and second-deadliest mass shooting in modern Australian history.
Organizers said the events were originally designed to reflect “everything Bondi stands for—community, coming together, joy, connection, and inclusivity,” noting that many members of their team live in and love the area. They acknowledged that thousands of locals and visitors had been looking forward to the return of New Year’s Eve celebrations at Bondi Beach for the first time in more than a decade.
“Here in Bondi, we look out for each other, especially in moments of heartbreak,” the statement read, adding that organizers hope to reunite the community “with the same spirit of care, connection, and joy” when the time is right.
