Inside Seven Lions’ newest album: ‘Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars’
Seven Lions returns to his roots, featuring collaborations with Kerli, HALIENE, Lilly Ahlberg, No/Me, Oaks, and Fiora.
“Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars,” Seven Lions’ new album, is out now via his Ophelia Records imprint. Jeff Montalvo is leaning into emotionally rich influences that shaped his earliest sounds, creating an album that reconnects with his fantasy-driven, pure melodic bass and even a little bit of metal.

“The name came from me going back to my roots – books, fantasy, metal,” said Montalvo. “A lot of my favorite metal tracks have these mystical, visually evocative names. I wanted something that felt old-school Seven Lions, something that sparks imagery the moment you read it.”
That level of intention is felt across every track, which Seven Lions describes as “handcrafted and intentional – something that transports you. Immense, overwhelming, and capable of pulling you into another world.”

The album begins with its namesake track, drawing you in with a trance-infused tone, setting up for the emotional moments in “Breaking Me” and “Delusional,” featuring No/Me’s powerful and dynamic vocals. “A Crown of Seven Suns” gives you a break from the high-energy breakbeat and provides a tranquil instrumental interlude, but not for long. Immediately following is a bass banger injected with Seven Lions’ legendary fantastical melodic beats, “From Beyond.”
Kerli and Seven Lions reunite after collaborating in 2014 on “Worlds Apart” for “Thrice Woven,” a cinematic build that enriches the album’s narrative depth. Closing the album with “Breathe It Out Slowly” alongside longtime collaborator Fiora, Seven Lions leans into vulnerability with an atmospheric finale made for main stages drenched in lasers, glitter, and that post-festival feeling of dancing with your favorite people.

“This album is about feeling increasingly out of place in the current landscape… there’s just so much noise,” Montalvo explains. “I wanted to turn away from all that and reconnect with what originally made me fall in love with making music.”
He adds, “To me, it’s a journey back to my roots – all the inspirations, all the handcrafted art, all the heart and soul from me, the vocalists, and every visual artist involved. In a world full of AI and shortcuts, this album was about sitting down and creating something meaningful.”
Seven Lions reclaims the heart of his artistry with ‘Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars.’ He takes the light born from darkness, all while honoring his roots.
