How did this rumor spread so fast?

Confusion began to arise once the Colosseum site director gave an interview to an Italian newspaper, mentioning concerts inside the amphitheater. Ultimately, Rumors spread even faster after AI images appeared online.

The AI picture was retrieved from a 2017 Facebook post from a 2CELLOS performance. The AI version of it contains a DJ booth, strobe lights, and thousands of dancers within the historic amphitheater.

The site director, Simone Quilici, of the Colosseum confirms that the rumors are “pure fiction”. In a recent statement, Quilici confirmed that there is no electronic music programming planned at the historical Roman Colosseum.

Furthermore, the newly appointed site director emphasizes that the monument’s cultural and historical value takes priority over entertainment trends.

The Colosseum Archaeological Park is one of Italy’s most visited landmarks, holding a fragile infrastructure with strict preservation laws. Notably, strict prevention laws limit the type of events allowed at the Colosseum to protect the infrastructure.

Until the improvements are complete, the Roman Colosseum will not be hosting any approved major concerts or public gatherings for the next two years.

Quilici explains that the Roman Colosseum’s art programming will focus on jazz and acoustic concerts, dance performances, or historically accurate gladiator reenactments that align with the Colosseum’s history. Upgrades are on their way to improve visitor safety and manage heavy tourist traffic.
