Zhu puts $1M price tag on black hoods with backstage access
ZHU shocks fans by issuing what appear to be $1M VIP tickets.
Electronic music producer and enigmatic DJ ZHU has always thrived on mystery and spectacle, but his latest move explores new extremes. Ahead of his BLACKLIZT event at the Brooklyn Storehouse on October 4th, ZHU‘s official merch site listed two simple black pieces (a hood and a T-shirt) priced at a jaw-dropping $1M a piece.
At first glance, the items look like standard streetwear staples: the hood is a minimalist black head covering with “blacklizt.club” printed across it, while the T-shirt reads like a confessional note in bold white text: “Dear ZHU, forgive me I did not wear black to Blacklizt Brooklyn Storehouse New York October 4.” But the million-dollar tag reveals the T-shirts are more than souvenirs. Fans quickly concluded that each item comes with a priceless perk: backstage access to the show itself, essentially transforming merch into a luxury VIP ticket.

ZHU has a history of curating BLACKLIZT as a ritualistic experience: attendees are expected to dress in all black, the venues are dimly lit and immersive, and secrecy fuels the mystique. By attaching a million-dollar figure to the hood and shirt, ZHU appears to be blending performance art with commerce, testing the boundaries of what fans will pay for access and exclusivity. Somehow, this is in deep alignment with his shadowy brand.
Reactions online have ranged from amusement to disbelief. Some fans see it as satire, a tongue-in-cheek commentary on inflated fashion collaborations and festival VIP tiers. Others wonder if a collector or ultra-wealthy fan might actually purchase one, making it a legendary flex in both the EDM and streetwear worlds.
Whether anyone click-clacks across their keyboard for a million-dollar hood (cha-ching!) remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: ZHU has once again blurred the line between music, fashion, and art, reminding fans that at BLACKLIZT is a complex and thrilling spectacle devoid of convention.
