Insomniac launches new underground rave label: Speaker Freaker

Insomniac, a powerhouse iconic for electronic festivals across the world, has unveiled its boldest imprint to date: Speaker Freaker.

Conceived in the spirit of warehouse chaos and gritty rave culture, Insomniac’s new label promises to celebrate the uncompromising edge of breakbeat, hardcore, and underground bass. Specifically, Speaker Freaker is drawing cues from the laser-drenched hedonism of the ’90s rave scene while carving a path forward. Undoubtedly, its vision will position the label as a home for innovation that thrives well beyond the mainstream spotlight.

The label’s launch comes with a fittingly explosive debut single: “Nighthawk” by King of the Beats. The newly formed supergroup consists of breakbeat veterans Krafty Kuts, Plump DJs, and Freestylers. Between them, the trio has decades of influence on dance culture, credited with shaping the very DNA of the rave sound that Speaker Freaker now seeks to champion.

“Nighthawk” wastes no time announcing the Speaker Freaker’s intent. Its fractured drum patterns, guttural sub-bass, warped synth textures, and hypnotic vocal snippets all layer perfectly. Moreover, it’s a reminder that these producers aren’t merely revisiting the genre—they’re redefining it on their own terms.

The names behind King of the Beats represent a who’s who of rave royalty. Krafty Kuts, often hailed as the “King of Breaks,” has released on esteemed imprints like OWSLA and Fabric while touring alongside icons such as The Prodigy and Fatboy Slim. His finely tuned blend of funk, hip-hop, and breakbeat has kept him at the forefront of the culture for decades.

Plump DJs, the London duo that co-founded Finger Lickin’ Records and Punks Music, have long been innovators in merging funk, house, and breakbeat.  They have played high-energy DJ sets at festivals from Glastonbury to Coachella. Meanwhile, Freestylers bring a battle-ready pedigree with UK chart hits and a reputation for vibrant bass-heavy shows.

Together, the trio has distilled decades of musical knowledge into a unified vision. Unquestionably, Speaker Freaker isn’t simply honoring rave heritage; it’s paying homage to the very artists who wrote its blueprint. “Nighthawk” by King of the Beats is out now on all streaming platforms via Speaker Freaker – make sure to give it a listen!

About The Author

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 12 consecutive years (still counting). As an avid traveler, I'm definitely not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My current bucket list festivals right now are Tomorrowland in Belgium, Cercle Festival in France, Kappa Futur in Italy, and Sonus in Croatia. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists are Franky Wah, BICEP, Cassian, and Mochakk.
