Slander reveals techno alias ‘Before Dawn’ with debut EP on Eli Brown’s label Arcane

Melodic dubstep heavyweights SLANDER have taken a bold new direction, officially debuting music under their techno moniker, Before Dawn.

SLANDER are switching things up in a big way. The duo just released their first-ever EP as Before Dawn, a techno-focused side project that’s been years in the making. Titled ;Reborn’ the EP is out now on Eli Brown’s label, ARCANE.

While fans are used to SLANDER’s signature emotional bass drops, Before Dawn dives into a much darker, grittier side of electronic music. Derek and Scott say they first started DJing this kind of music just for fun about eight years ago, keeping it low-key and sharing it with close friends only.

Over time, their interest in techno kept growing, and eventually they started producing tracks that felt true to their own take on the genre. That journey led them to ‘Reborn’ which showcases their new sound with a polished edge and clear passion for the underground.

They found the perfect home for the release on ARCANE, run by one of their longtime inspirations, Eli Brown. The label’s forward-thinking vibe made it a natural fit, and getting Brown’s stamp of approval made the release even more special for them.

The EP also includes collabs with Samplifire and Former, who helped bring a sharper, more experimental edge to the tracks. Their input gave the project a unique twist that stands out from more standard techno releases.

While Before Dawn is officially out in the world, SLANDER isn’t slowing down their main project either. They’ve teased a big wave of new SLANDER music coming this fall. For now, though, fans can enjoy a fresh look into their darker side.

Hey everyone, I'm Neil! I first joined the dance community back in 2019 when my friend dragged me to Moonrise, my first-ever music festival, and I became hooked ever since. I like to dabble in most genres with my favorites being tech house and melodic techno. When it comes to studio output, Camelphat is part of my daily listening rotation and for a live performance, I'll never miss a Solomun set. You can likely catch me on the dance floor somewhere in Brooklyn!
