Dimitri Vegas releases statement after Nico Moreno ‘accidentally’ plays his remix before Tomorrowland set

What started as a slip-up at Tomorrowland turned into mutual respect between Dimitri and Nico.

A potentially awkward Tomorrowland moment turned into a celebration of unity this week, as Dimitri Vegas broke his silence on a viral video showing French techno DJ Nico Moreno accidentally playing one of Dimitri’s unreleased remixes—just before Dimitri himself was set to take the mainstage.

Rather than controversy, Dimitri Vegas took to Instagram to clear the air and defend Nico Moreno. “Yo guys I just wanted to quickly respond on that video going around after Tomorrowland,” he began in the post. “I mean I normally not comment on stuff like this but I feel like it’s getting blown out of proportion. And honestly I feel bad for Nico because it’s really not that big of deal.”

Explaining how the mix-up happened, Dimitri Vegas revealed that someone had taken his remix, added some samples, and uploaded it to SoundCloud under a new name. Moreno, unaware of the original source, downloaded it thinking it was a different track. “Some kid took my remix, slaps some samples on it, uploaded it to SoundCloud as his own a new version. Nico downloaded and didn’t realize it was actually my remix, simple as that,” he wrote. “Mistakes happen. And let’s be real, most of us already had that moments where we accidentally played a big tune from the DJ right after us.”

Dimitri Vegas’ perspective was refreshingly humble, even calling the slip-up a compliment. “Maybe it’s part of some mash-up we forgot about, maybe we didn’t know the lineup. It happens, it’s awkward but at the end of the day it’s also a compliment because it means it’s a big track,” he said. “I’m just grateful so many people are actually playing the remix.”

He also touched on the larger issue of sampling and remix culture in electronic music, noting, “Since we’re also digging back for samples, remixes, it would be pretty ridiculous for an artist to try and claim an iconic 90s sound that everyone knows and loves. The only ones who can do that are the original artists. Anyways nothing but love here and time to move on.”

Nico Moreno responded to Dimitri Vegas’s post and said, ” “Love and respect for you brother, it was a huge pleasure to dance with you on the mainstage, big one.” Dimitri Vegas’ mature and lighthearted approach drew praise from across the dance music world. Laidback Luke responded, “Literally ‘Woops’ 😅 worded super eloquently here Dimi, much respect,” while Kaskade echoed the sentiment, adding, “Respect! Well said my friend! I love the positive vibes.” Techno duo 999999999 summed it up simply: “Big respect for both. Music unites, not divide.” The response served as a reminder that electronic music is still, at its core, about connection and community.
