Metal singer legend Ozzy Osbourne dies at age 76
Metal legend Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy lives on through music, chaos, and cross-genre inspiration.
Heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne, famously known as the “Prince of Darkness,” died peacefully on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76, surrounded by loved ones. As the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath and a trailblazing solo artist, Ozzy helped define the sound, spirit, and spectacle of heavy metal. His contributions earned him two inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Ozzy’s final public performance came just weeks earlier during a special Black Sabbath reunion in Birmingham. It was the band’s first full-lineup show in over 20 years. The benefit concert raised funds for Parkinson’s research and children’s charities, ending with a powerful performance of Paranoid in front of a sold-out crowd.
Ozzy was known for wild stage antics. He once released live doves in a record label office, opened shows inside a coffin, and famously urinated on the Alamo, earning a temporary city ban. But behind the chaos was a sharp, funny, and deeply human figure who never stopped connecting with fans.
One of the most heartfelt tributes came from Yungblud, who posted a video of the moment he gifted Ozzy a gold cross necklace engraved with “Love Always, Dom.” Yungblud also promised to perform Changes every night on tour in Ozzy’s memory, an emotional tribute to the artist he called a personal hero.
Though rooted in metal, Ozzy’s influence crossed genre lines. His music and persona inspired generations of rock, rap, and electronic music artists. Tracks like “Iron Man” and “Crazy Train” have been sampled in bass-heavy trap and techno remixes, echoing through DJ sets at clubs and festivals worldwide.
While Ozzy helped invent metal in the 1970s, his energy and boldness continue to influence today’s genre-bending artists. In an era where music breaks all boundaries, Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy will live on; loud, fearless, and unforgettable.
