Create Music Group acquires deadmau5 and mau5trap catalogs for $55 million

The partnership with Create Music Group has instituted a joint venture that will act as a publisher for future projects by deadmau5.

Create Music Group (CMG) has acquired the catalogs for the electronic music maestro deadmau5, as well as his record label mau5trap. This deal was valued at over 55 million dollars and includes owning the copyrights of more than 4,000 songs. The partnership in tandem has instituted a joint venture acting as a publisher for future projects by deadmau5 and mau5trap.

With nearly two and a half decades of work under his belt, deadmau5 has produced one of the largest discographies in electronic music today. He is one of the most celebrated artists and has been established by EDM fans as a living icon.

On the way to achieve greatness as a DJ and producer, deadmau5 had become a bold activist for artists’ rights and ownership. This dedication birthed the creation of his record label mau5trap in 2007. Since then, mau5trap has famously launched the careers of some of the most recognized artists in dance music including Skrillex and REZZ. Other notable artists are Noisia, Feed Me and i_o.

Over the years, mau5trap has been positioned to be more than just a record label. It’s meant to represent an artistic movement through its distinct brand identity, innovative approach to production, and commitment to shaping the next generation of electronic music talent. Because of this, mau5trap has become an esteemed foundation in the industry.

When asked about the acquisition, deadmau5 shared how he had worked closely with the Create Music Group leadership team for nearly two decades while building his career. Familiar with the power CMG holds as a release radar, deadmau5 expressed that, “we didn’t need to look far when we were considering a partner to help get it all to the next level. With Create, I feel the music is going to reach more.

My favorite thing in the whole world is music and after hearing “One” by Swedish House Mafia for the first time in 2014, I was hooked on EDM. Dance music has been a large part of who I am and will always be searching for new ways to incorporate it in my life. The pure bliss that I feel from live shows is a feeling I never want to stop chasing (iykyk). Some of my favorite artists include Flume, Rüfüs Du Sol, Mindchatter, Gorgon City, Prospa 🙂
