Inside the clues that Afterlife duo Tale of Us are breaking up

Exploring the rumors: are Mrak and Anyma, the dynamic duo behind Tale of Us and co-founders of Afterlife, preparing to part ways?

Speculation is mounting about a potential split between Matteo Milleri (Anyma) and Carmine Conte (Mrak), the duo behind the renowned electronic act Tale of Us and co-founders of the Afterlife label. Recent developments have fueled these rumors, suggesting a possible divergence in their professional paths.

During their two recent performances at Afterlife Tulum on January 4th and 6th, some attendees noted a lack of chemistry between the pair. Observers noted that Mrak appeared disengaged during the set, sparking gossip about his condition and the noticeably fumbled several transitions in their performance. Additionally, fans spotted a lack of communication between the two, with both appearing to avoid interacting during the performance.

Adding to the speculation, Anyma recently held an exclusive residency at the Las Vegas Sphere titled “The End of Genesys,” where he played eight shows from December 27, 2024, to January 11, 2025. The lineup featured prominent artists such as Tiësto, Amelie Lens, Charlotte de Witte, Adriatique, CamelPhat, Dixon, Rampa, and Layton Giordani, among others. Notably absent from the roster was Mrak, igniting discussions about his exclusion from the residency.

In a move that further stoked the rumors, Mrak recently announced a solo performance titled “We Don’t Follow” at Avant Gardner in New York, set for February 8th. Although both Anyma and Mrak have showcased their individual projects at Afterlife events in the past, speculation suggests they may no longer perform together as Tale of Us and are instead focusing on their solo careers. Fans have also theorized that the tension between the two reportedly stemmed from disagreements over profit-sharing, as Afterlife events have become increasingly commercial, largely driven by the popularity of Anyma’s Genesys visuals.

For the cherry on top, there have been no announcements regarding Afterlife’s participation in major events like Tomorrowland’s stage takeover or Miami Music Week, which traditionally feature Tale of Us. This silence has led fans to wonder about the label’s future engagements and the duo’s involvement in such high-profile events.

While neither Anyma nor Mrak has officially addressed these speculations, the series of events points toward a possible redefinition of their collaborative efforts. Fans and industry insiders alike are keenly observing for any official statements or announcements that clarify the future of Tale of Us and the Afterlife brand.

UPDATE (July 2026): Where do Tale of Us stand now?

More than a year after fans first began speculating about the future of Tale of Us, there is still no official confirmation that the duo has split up. However, their careers have continued to move in separate directions.

Anyma has continued expanding his solo project with major headline performances, new music, and large-scale audiovisual productions, while MRAK has focused on his own releases and performances under the MRAK alias. The pair have also increasingly curated different aspects of Afterlife events, with recent editions featuring separate artistic direction rather than the traditional Tale of Us performances.

Joint appearances as a duo have become increasingly rare, and neither artist has publicly addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding the future for the pair. Fans continue to debate whether Tale of Us are simply on an extended hiatus while pursuing individual creative paths, or whether the project has actually taken an infinite halt.
