Daft Punk gears up for A night to remember and celeberate ‘Interstella 5555’.

More than 20 years after captivating audiences, Daft Punk’s unique anime feature ‘Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem’ is set to make an exciting comeback on the big screen. For one night only, on December 12, 2024, the visually dazzling, 4K remastered version of the film will be shown in theaters worldwide. This marks a special celebration for fans of the legendary electronic music duo, offering a rare chance to experience the film’s vibrant storytelling and unforgettable soundtrack in cinemas.

In late September, the North American premiere of the remastered Interstella 5555 took place at the United Theater in Los Angeles. This exclusive screening was accompanied by a unique panel discussion featuring key figures behind Daft Punk’s visionary work, including former manager Pedro Winter and creative director Cédric Hervet. Initially released in May 2003, Interstella 5555 was conceived as a companion to Daft Punk’s groundbreaking album Discovery. The project was the brainchild of duo members Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, who collaborated with renowned Japanese animator and manga artist Leiji Matsumoto. The resulting work was a pioneering fusion of anime and electronic music, blending high-energy visuals with the rhythms and sounds of Daft Punk’s album to produce a narrative that pushed boundaries in audiovisual storytelling. Each track from Discovery was brought to life through animated sequences, with hits like “One More Time” becoming instant fan favorites. These tracks were eventually released as standalone music videos, leaving a lasting impact on music video culture and inspiring a generation of artists.

Reflecting on the film’s creation, Shinji Shimizu of Toei Animation, who produced the anime sequences, recalled the buzz around Discovery during production. “At that time, “One More Time” was playing everywhere,” Shimizu noted. “I was so proud to be involved in its animation that I wanted to shout to everyone, ‘We’re animating this song!’”

Interstella 5555 became a cultural touchstone, celebrated for its futuristic storytelling and emotional depth. Today, as it returns in stunning 4K resolution, fans old and new will have the chance to witness its vibrant art and storytelling as they were meant to be seen.

Daft Punk’s bold, boundary-breaking vision remains timeless, and this one-night event promises an unforgettable experience for fans of both anime and electronic music.
