Tokimonsta mourns death of best friend from cancer after canceling tour dates to be her caretaker

Tokimonsta has shared the heartbreaking news that her best friend has passed away from cancer, after canceling tour dates to step in as her caretaker.

Tokimonsta is not just one of the most prolific producers in the game, but also the strongest. The artist, whose real name is Jenn Lee, now shares that she’s mourning the loss of her best friend, Regina.

In a statement shared on social media, Jenn discusses the passing of Regina, who had been battling cancer. The post shares more details about their friendship, as well as photos and videos that capture her spirit.

Regina worked occasionally as Tokimonsta’s tour manager, despite her full-time gig as a web designer. Calling Regina her “sister in every way that mattered,” Jenn recalled their adventures around the world together.

Jenn revealed that she took care of Regina in her final month of life. Indeed, on September 23, she announced that she would be postponing her album release and canceling tour dates, citing an “urgent personal matter.”

Though fans were understanding, what Tokimonsta had been dealing with resulted in unfortunate news. Jenn shared with fans, “in [Regina’s] final month, I put everything aside to care for her full time—tours can be rescheduled, albums pushed, but I can never bring her back.”

The artist shared that being able to focus on taking care of her friend helped for her peaceful send-off into the afterlife. While tragedy is never easy, Tokimonsta expressed vulnerability in the post about love, death, and grief.

However, this isn’t Tokimonsta’s first time disclosing serious personal matters. Back in 2015, survived two major surgeries amidst a battle with Moyamoya disease, which means certain brain arteries are constricted.

Following the surgeries, Jenn struggled with lost comprehension and language skills. Once she began recovering, she worked on her 2017 album, Lune Rouge, and though the recording process was a difficult one, it resulted in her most personal work.

It’s unfortunate that her best friend and “chosen sister” has passed, but Tokimonsta’s statement is profound. “As I feel the searing echoes of your absence, I’ll have to remind myself that a part of you lives on in me and that I remain abundant.” We extend our sympathies to Regina’s loved ones, as well as Tokimonsta.
