A look into deadmau5′ 25-year discography

Canadian DJ deadmau5 celebrates 25 years in the INDUSTRY, an impressive milestone.

Internationally lauded DJ deadmau5 – also known as the crass Canadian Joel Zimmerman – has more than 25 years of experience in the music industry. Throughout his tenure, deadmau5 has garnered seven Grammy nominations, has dropped eight full-length albums, nine compilation albums, one soundtrack album, two video albums, just shy of 50 singles, and almost 20 music videos. He’s played shows from EDC to Ultra to Tomorrowland multiple times and is one of the most notorious DJs in the industry.

The world of deadmau5 began in 2005 with his debut album “Get Scrapped,” released via Zoolook record label and widely disseminated on CD. The album was shortly followed by yet another studio album “Vexillology” in 2006 and “Random Album Title” in 2008, which was Joel’s first album release on his record label mau5trap. The album drew global attention for the hit ‘I Remember,’ a collaboration with up-and-coming DJ Kaskade. The track became famous for its wistful musing, for its unique and smooth sound. ‘I Remember’ cooed to its audience of nostalgic youth and created an army of fandom. Modish artists of today like John Summit have credited ‘I Remember’ with inspiring them to pursue a career in electronic dance. The track, in many ways, was the zeitgeist of EDM y2k.

In 2009, deadmau5 followed ‘I Remember’ with another album “For Lack of a Better Name,” which featured yet another hit track. ‘Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff’ became famous for what would eventually become deadmau5’ signature sound. The track was playful, melodic, featured thoughtful synths, and was ridiculously catchy. It became a club staple and further solidified deadmau5 as a producer to watch.

Of all his studio albums, “Random Album Title”  and “For Lack of a Better Name” went gold in Canada as well as the UK. “4×4=12” went platinum in Canada and the UK as well as gold in the states. “Album Title Goes Here,” which was released in 2012, went gold in Canada.

Many of his singles received accolades on their own. ‘I Remember’ went gold in Canada and platinum in the UK. ‘Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff’ went 3x platinum in Canada, silver in the UK, gold in the States, and the instrumental went 2x platinum in the States. Much of his work has charted and/or received accolades in Canada, Joel’s home turf. Joel’s most recent collaboration with Kaskade for their duo kx5 earned them mass attention for the hit single ‘Escape,’ featuring up-and-coming artist Hayla whose vocals can also be heard on the international hit ‘Where You Are’ by John Summit.

As a self-proclaimed troll, Joel loves to regale fans with his goofy stories, survival guides from intense public former relationships, and even the occasional lambast on X, formerly Twitter. He’s known for his 3D visual experience The Cube as well as meme moments during his sets. He’s frank, obsessed with creating music, and a veteran in EDM, respected for dropping tracks idolized across generations.

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
