Insomniac launches new trap label BREAK ROOM
Break Room has been announced as the hardwave and trap record label from Insomniac Music Group.
Insomniac produces some of the world’s most important electronic music festivals, from Electric Daisy Carnival to Electric Forest and beyond. The event company also founded the label, Insomniac Records, in partnership with Interscope Geffen A&M.
The expansion of the label into the Insomniac Music Group has produced various imprints that cover just about any genre of dance music. For their latest brand, Insomniac has launched Break Room Records.
The new imprint will “showcase breakthrough sounds” of hardware and trap music. The first release for Break Room Records comes from Hex Cougar & VARI in “Ultra.”
The song plays up melodic influences for a distorted and buzzy sound, resulting in a fun, festival-ready tune. “Ultra” is the first track off Hex Cougar’s upcoming EP, which will also be released on Break Room Records.
Hex Cougar, who made waves with a potential subtweet aimed at John Summit, has received support on his music from pioneers in the bass realm, like RL Grime and Alison Wonderland. His background is a great fit for Break Room, which seeks to highlight up-and-coming talent.
Insomniac is no stranger to backing talent that has star potential. Artists like Chris Lake and Bingo Players first got recognition by being signed to Insomniac Music Group.
While the label continues to expand its musical offerings, Insomniac recently experienced strife on the event promoter side. Their longest running festival, Nocturnal Wonderland, was unfortunately canceled this year due to fires in the area.
However, based on their festival portfolio, it will be easy for Insomniac to recover. EDC Las Vegas continues to expand, with hotel partners already set for the 2025 edition. Fans can also look forward to iii Points in Miami, which is now part the Insomniac group.
