New York collective making huge strides to shine light on women DJs
New York collective, Support Women DJs, has made strides in 2024 with huge plans including global expansion for events, mentorship, and more.
Support Women DJs, SWDJ, is amplifying female voices with its community-driven initiatives in an industry traditionally dominated by men. Founded in 2024 by Rach Brosman, SWDJ has rapidly become a pioneering platform dedicated to fostering inclusivity and gender diversity in electronic music. The collective has made an indelible mark on New York City’s rave scene, with its mission to empower women DJs, giving them the spotlight they rightfully deserve.
Support Women DJs’ impact extends far beyond just hosting events. From high-energy raves to exclusive networking opportunities, SWDJ actively creates spaces where female DJs can thrive. Reflecting on the collective’s broader vision, she stated, “We’re not just building events; we’re building a global community.” The success of its first all-women DJ party, held at Bushwick’s Sultan Room and attended by over 300 ravers, showcased the overwhelming demand for more diverse lineups in electronic music. Since then, SWDJ has produced over 45 events across top NYC venues like Elsewhere and SILO, with a roster that includes genre-spanning talent such as Canabliss and DJ Dave.
SWDJ’s initiatives extend beyond music performances, offering mentorship programs and resources for up-and-coming female DJs. The creator, inspired by her journey from marketing professional to rave entrepreneur, has integrated a support system that includes workshops, podcast series, and panel discussions focused on issues like gender equality in music. This comprehensive approach is helping create an ecosystem where female and gender-expansive talent can grow, develop, and gain visibility.
Looking ahead, Support Women DJs is gearing up for global expansion. Plans for 2025 include brand partnerships, cross-continental DJ tours, and solidifying their presence in Brooklyn. By taking the platform internationally, they aim to amplify women’s voices in electronic music and bring the collective’s inclusive vision to a wider audience.
As the brand continues to grow, Rach notes drawing inspiration from trailblazing women entrepreneurs like Whitney Wolfe Herd. With bold ambitions and an innovative mindset, both Rach and Support Women DJs are set to break barriers in the electronic music world, proving that the future of the scene is inclusive, diverse, and driven by the talents of women DJs.
