Inside the series of complications that took place at Lost Lands 2024

Lost Lands is a mecca of dubstep, and sometimes, bad decisions.

With the truly spectacular crowd comes an unfortunate mix of the not-so-spectacular, those who make poor choices, like bringing fake guns or driving through the campgrounds while intoxicated. Allegedly, both of these incidents, and more, occurred at Lost Lands 2024, contributing to a slew of complications that had fans racing to their keyboards over the weekend. To add fuel to the fire, a state-mandated “fire ban” prevented festival-goers from smoking cigarettes at the venue.

As it does every year, Lost Lands 2024 captured the attention of dance music fans worldwide, watching the chaos unfold from afar. While chaos isn’t always a bad thing at music festivals, Lost Lands didn’t entirely make it look good this year.

One of the first complications of the weekend arose when a rumor circulated online that a festival attendee was fined $5,000 for smoking a cigarette and violating the statewide fire ban. The festival quickly responded to the online rumor via the official Lost Lands subreddit, debunking the claim and assuring fans that “no fines have been given to any attendees.”

Additionally, several people spoke out about an alleged vehicular assault at Lost Lands 2024. One person tweeted, “Someone just ran over people in their tents at the vendor camping lot,” noting that attempts to get help from the festival’s staff were unsuccessful, leading them to call 911 themselves.

Regarding the incident, the festival stated, “Emergency response teams responded to a car accident in the vendor campgrounds. One person was transported to the hospital and is in good condition.” It was later revealed that 24-year-old Noah Curtis has been charged with aggravated vehicular assault and is currently in Licking County Jail.

Finally, some attendees reported seeing someone inside the festival grounds carrying what appeared to be a fake gun, which “looked real, no fake orange tip,” describing the person as not looking like a typical festival-goer. Lost Lands addressed the issue: “We are aware of the video posted on Reddit of a person holding a water gun. Security confiscated the water gun, and the attendee was immediately removed from the festival. We have a zero-tolerance policy for toys resembling any form of weapon.”

Unfortunately, Lost Lands 2024 experienced several complications, largely due to poor decisions by attendees, among other factors. Thankfully, the festival reported that the person injured in the accident is expected to recover.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
