Deorro receives his first-ever Latin Grammy Award nomination

The famed artist behind “Five More Hours,” Deorro has received the recognition he deserves with his first-ever Latin Grammy nomination.

A wildly impressive feat, DJ/producer Deorro has been nominated for his first-ever Latin Grammy. This exciting nod comes in the category of Best Latin Electronic Music Performance for his 2023 track, “BAMBOLE,” featuring crossover artist Vikina. Released on Pitbull’s Mr. 305 Records, the song merges sultry vocals and tantalizing energy with Deorro’s signature blend of bouncy synths and steady rhythms.

This recognition has arisen from the Latin Recording Academy’s latest efforts to embrace the ever-evolving electronic music scene. Moreover, the category for Best Latin Electronic Music Performance is new for 2024. Deorro’s nomination also places him among a range of industry names like Alok, Tiësto, and Ale Acosta.

In an interview, Deorro expressed his excitement, noting “how beautiful… [it is to be] breaking down doors” and ‘creating more opportunities for artists like us”. Undoubtedly, Deorro, whose real name is Erick Orrosquieta, has pushed the boundaries of Latin dance music since his emergence on the scene. Furthermore, he has become a key player in bridging mainstream EDM with Latin influences.

In 2022, Deorro dropped his first Latin-focused album, ORRO, which featured collaborations with artists like Elvis Crespo and Brray. He has also taken his live shows to new heights, opening for Bad Bunny during the megastar’s “World’s Hottest Tour.” And clearly, 2024 has been another standout year for Deorro.

About The Author

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now, I am finishing up law school and hope to merge my passions by working in the music industry. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list items to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and ADE in the Netherlands. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Kevin de Vries, Eli Brown, and John Summit.
