Maty Noyes addresses falling out with Kygo after release of ‘Stay’

Maty Noyes’ falling out with Kygo and why she no longer performs their hit collaboration, “Stay,” has been addressed on TikTok.

In the almost 5-minute long video, Maty Noyes shared that her falling out with Kygo began in 2016 after she had fallen ill with strep throat and was not able to perform at South by Southwest with him. She alleged that his manager, Myles Shear, had refused to let her play at the Hollywood Bowl. Following the event, Kesha caught wind of the conflict and posted about it on X (previously Twitter) which led to the incident being publicized.

They have since seen each other twice and she said she has moved on from the experience. “Stay” had been released as a single for ‘Cloud Nine,’ Kygo’s debut album, in 2015. The song immediately took off, gaining thousands of streams across platforms, and rose on global charts

“Stay” came about after Noyes heard the DJ’s remix of “Sexual Healing,” leading her to send the track over. Kygo finished the song within days, released it less than a month later, and the collaboration led to them touring the world together. Noyes described how the song impacted her career, saying that she is grateful for the experience as a whole.

Noyes looked back on the growth she experienced as a person and an artist, despite what had happened with Kygo. “It taught me how to sing on stage in front of a lot of people. It showed me that the world could connect to my voice,” she said.

She also looked back on how it affected female artists who told her that her story inspired them to ask for deserved pay. She finished the video positively by saying, “I’m not the type to hold a grudge so where we stand today is I wish them nothing but the best.”

“I hope they have lots of love and success in their lives,” she finished. Maty Noyes’ falling out with Kygo and the full statement can be found on her TikTok account.
