7 bass sets to check out at Boo Seattle 2024

Insomniac’s Boo Seattle is back this Halloween, and there will be plenty of bass-face-inducing artists to see… if you dare.

For dance music fans in the Pacific Northwest, Halloween coming back around each year means one thing above any other: the return of Boo Seattle. Since their massive expansion and move to WaMu Theater in 2021, the Insomniac festival has done a tremendous job of giving ravers in the area an anchor festival around which to plan their fall shows. Between the indoor carnival rides, the refreshingly chilly parking garage stage, and the extensive array of art installations and wandering mascots, Boo provides the all-out experience needed to wean attendees off of the festival season and into the winter months.

Boo Seattle has always included a true smorgasbord of genres to satisfy any flavor of dance music fan. This year is no different, with everyone from Afrojack to Chris Lorenzo to Illenium to Rezz on the lineup. But 2024 does seem to have brought an impressively deep roster of exciting rising talent in the world of bass music in particular. From bass house to drum-and-bass to dubstep to garage and everything in between, check out our selection of inventive bass artists to check out at this year’s edition of Boo.

AHEE

Emerging from the wacky, funky branch of stoner bass music championed by the likes of GRiZ and LSDream, American artist AHEE figures to be near that level of name recognition in no time. His talent for crafting crisp tracks that twist and turn in fascinating ways is undeniable, and his rainbow cartoon graphics just make it all the more delightful to take in a set. Connoisseurs of sax and wubs at Boo will get their fix from AHEE, and may just walk away with a new favorite artist.

Hamdi

English artist Hamdi has caught fire in recent years as he’s refined and disseminated his multifaceted brand of bass music. His much-remixed 2023 hit “Counting” and high-profile collabs with Skrillex, Zeds Dead, TroyBoi, and more have shot him up through the ranks and thrust him into primetime festival slots. Boo will showcase Hamdi as a burgeoning star on the precipice of his prime, his grimey yet often sing-along-friendly tunes echoing through the halls at WaMu theater to create a true had-to-be-there set.

Hedex

Good luck attending any dance music festival this year without hearing Hedex’s absolute heater of a collab with Chase & Status, “Liquor & Cigarettes,” several times. Next year, the same will likely be true for his latest collab with the legend Tiësto, “Click Click Click,” another earworm track that ratchets up the energy to eleven. But the ideal setting to experience either of these songs is undoubtedly a set from the remarkably talented Hedex himself, woven into a silky stream of bold drum-and-bass tunes that keeps the crowd on their toes at every turn.

HOL!

French artist HOL! has a knack for packing out stages far beyond his festival time slot’s typical level, turning heads and drawing eyes from passersby. His 2022 viral sensation “COUNTRY RIDDIM” has certainly contributed to that, as have his 2024 Subtronics collab “Mind Pluck,” a crowd favorite of late even at Jesse’s shows, and 2024 Marshmello collab “MOVEMENT.”  But more than any song in particular, it’s HOL!’s unmistakable bold, rhythmic style that keeps fans coming back and creates the wild scenes that he’ll no doubt create once again this Halloweekend.

INFEKT

Don’t be fooled by the cutesy cartoons that have graced his cover art for the past two years; INFEKT’s music is anything but adorable. The German artist has drawn a following among North American headbangers and moshpitters with his straightforward, hard-hitting style of dubstep. That style will fit right into the ghoulish Halloween atmosphere at Boo, and bass heads will pack out the crowd to see it.

Marauda

It doesn’t get much spookier than the sinister tunes of Australian artist Marauda. In the vein of SVDDEN DEATH, Maruada has carved a primo spot for himself in the world of the heaviest of heavy bass music, leaving no survivors at his festival sets or headline shows. With a marked talent for noticeably differentiating each track to burst through even the most intense noise, he’ll send headbangers home from Boo with a handful of mindblowing moments to look back on.

Wenzday

West Coast native Wenzday is tough to put in a box genre-wise, but much of her best work is in the world of bass house. Her captivating, vivacious style can often be likened to Nostalgix, with whom she’s played a handful of thrilling b2b sets in the past few years. A skilled and ear-catching DJ as much as a producer, Wenzday will have no issue getting the party started for Boo Seattle 2024.
