Where is Rebecca Black now in 2024?

The child star Rebecca Black now has a new look and brand: edgy and mature.

Rebecca Black first rose to fame for her breakout single Friday in 2011. At the time, she was only 13 years old but was quickly spotlighted in the industry, appearing in Katy Perry’s ‘Friday Night’ music video and subsequently winning a Teen Choice award. In early 2023, Black released her first debut album “Let Her Burn.” Throughout that 12-year interim, Black released various singles and slowly built her confidence as an artist, moving past the monolithic experience of childhood stardom. Now, Rebecca Black has entered a new era: Boiler Room DJ sets.

A year and change after her debut album, Black announced her Boiler Room set. “[Boiler Room] might just be the loudest bucket list item I’ll ever get to check off…” The set took place in Chicago on Saturday, June 29th but another will take place on Saturday, September 14th in Washington D.C. Black is set to perform with Job Jobs, Slayyyter, Saint Levant, VTSS, and more.

Although Black began her career as a bubbly, happy-go-lucky teenager, she’s clearly transitioned to a more adult and edgy brand, best represented by her social media presence and recent music endeavors. She recently spoke to NPR about her queer relationship of more than a year. “Well, we’ve been dating for about a year, and she’s a producer. We didn’t work together on this…” She elaborated, “If there was one person I was afraid to share the album with, it was her! But she had really – luckily – positive things to say about it.”

Her girlfriend was supposedly living abroad during Black’s initial stardom and therefore didn’t immediately recognize her earlier work. When Black trepidatiously introduced Friday to her, she laughed and referenced Black’s youth. “That’s cute. You were a kid. Adorable.”

Black looks forward to putting forth more music and exploring the various sides to her burgeoning adult brand and new page in her career.

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
