GRiZ performs at Burning Man amid hiatus

Almost eleven months after officially beginning his hiatus from touring, GRiZ has played multiple sets at Burning Man.

Last October, funky American bass artist GRiZ (Grant Kwiecinski) rode into a temporary sunset as he began an indefinite break from performing. Since the self-proclaimed “workaholic” began this hiatus to nurture his mental health, fans have only received occasional crumbs of information about his goings on from other artists like Grabbitz and ProbCause. But this week, it appears that GRiZ has briefly come out of hibernation to perform for attendees of Burning Man.

One member of the ‘GRiZ Family’ fan group on Facebook posted to share that he was lucky enough to witness a “secret set” that GRiZ played at the festival. He specified that the set took place at the Exploratorium camp and included “ALL new music,” especially in the areas of “garage bass and two-step beats.” He also indicated that it wasn’t GRiZ’s only Burning Man set, with at least two more yet to come when he made the post.

The Facebook post included a picture of GRiZ behind the decks as proof that it was in fact him and not a French artist of the same name, as some had speculated last week. The fan that made the post clarified that he wouldn’t be posting any footage of the set “out of respect for his wishes.” He also hyped GRiZ up big time, saying that he “absolutely crushed it” and “is gonna come back with a bang, eventually!”

Despite the special appearance, the hiatus is still very much active for GRiZ. He has not posted about Burning Man on social media, and has apparently asked attendees not to post any clips. Fans will have to wait at least a little longer for GRiZ to properly end his break, but it’s good to see him getting a few reps in and spreading some love in the meantime.

Since then, I've attended countless shows and several major festivals including Tomorrowland, EDC Las Vegas, Decadence CO, Hard Summer, and Shambhala.
