Desert Daze cancels 2024 edition due to ‘rising production costs’

Southern California Festival has expressed deep sadness in choice to cancel.

Desert Daze has canceled the 2024 edition due to ‘rising production costs.’ In the 2024 festival cycle, many festivals have postponed or called off weekends – usually weather-related. This time, production costs have seriously affected the Southern California festival.

Gracefully, they have promised to return money to current ticket-holders as quickly as possible. However, beneath the administrative task of refunds and cancellations is a deep sadness that the Desert Daze festival could not continue this year. Furthermore, they have expressed their dismay and disappointment in a recent Instagram post.

As an Independent festival, they do not possess depthless funds to stay in stride with the unsettling costs it takes to procure a space, stages, hospitality, and many more elements. They have strived to put together this weekend simply as music lovers, and they work harder each year to improve. As they prepare their exit, the organizers have shown a deep respect and love for their attendees. 

Unsurprisingly, festival-goers have, and always will be, the lifeblood and pulse of festivals. Ostensibly, it’s clear that Desert Daze has centered itself on genuine and immersive experiences for all those in attendance. Moreover, organizers must also leave behind a lineup rife with highly-anticipated performers.

In truth, the lineups are always a crucial aspect of a festival, especially as independent festival producers have to work diligently at them. The likes of Jack White, Cigarettes After Sex, Alex G, Thundercat, and many more planned to be there. Expectedly, Under the sun, the Southern California festival would have been a highlight, nearing the end of the 2024 cycle. 

In fact, the 2024 edition being canceled could very well be the tip of the iceberg. Rising costs have been noticed not only in this context but in tickets as well for festival-goers. Hopefully, this news alongside the ambition of the independent festival will have a positive effect going forward – making it paramount to provide live music at reasonable costs.
