Subtronics and Seven Lions reveal debut collaboration on Ophelia Records

This collaboration has been over a year in the making, beginning during Seven Lions’ Journey 3 headline album tour in the spring of 2023.

Subtronics and Seven Lions have joined forces for a much-anticipated collaboration, a debut track, “I’ll Wait For You,” which features the haunting vocals of Grammy-nominated artist Skylar Grey. The collaboration has been eagerly awaited by fans, who have affectionately dubbed the duo “Seventronics.” The track masterfully blends the signature elements of both artists, delivering powerful bass drops and ethereal melodies that perfectly complement Skylar Grey’s emotive vocal performance.

Seven Lions, born Jeff Montalvo, first teased an instrumental version of the track in his sets, sparking excitement among fans. As the track evolved, the collaboration with Subtronics, real name Jesse Kardon, took shape, with Grey’s haunting vocals completing the final version. The song’s development also benefited from the contributions of HAYLA and Poppy Baskcomb, two leading female voices in dance music today. Their initial pitch track set the emotional tone for the song, which Subtronics and Seven Lions then expanded upon, resulting in a track that seamlessly combines the best of melodic bass and heavy dubstep.

Ophelia Records has rapidly established itself as a leading label in the melodic bass subgenre, responsible for numerous chart-topping releases and earning recognition as Dancing Astronaut’s Label of the Year in 2021.

Seven Lions’ genre-defying performances have graced the stages of major festivals like Ultra Music Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival, appealing to audiences around the world. Skylar Grey, known for her evocative voice and introspective lyrics, first gained widespread recognition after co-writing Eminem’s global hit “Love the Way You Lie.” This success catapulted her into the mainstream, leading to collaborations with artists such as Dr. Dre and Lupe Fiasco. Her unique blend of pop, rock, and electronic music, combined with her ability to convey deep emotion through her vocals, made her an ideal choice for “I’ll Wait For You,” where her performance adds a haunting yet beautiful dimension to the track.

Subtronics, a Philadelphia native, discovered dubstep in high school, igniting his passion for music production. Over the years, he has developed a distinct sound that pushes the boundaries of electronic music, blending heavy bass with cutting-edge sound design. His electrifying live performances have made him a staple at major festivals like Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Electric Daisy Carnival.

In addition to his live shows, Subtronics has also made significant strides with his label, Cyclops Recordings, which he launched in 2020. His debut album FRACTALS was a commercial success, reaching #4 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic chart, and his sophomore album TESSERACT further solidified his position in the industry with top spots on various charts.
