UK man in his 20s dies after Boomtown Festival at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital

A UK man has passed away in his 20s, following a “medical incident” at Boomtown Festival.

Earlier this month, Boomtown Festival celebrated its 16th year running, since its premiere back in 2009. However, this year’s festival ended in tragedy when a UK man in his early 20’s died at a nearby hospital following a “medical incident.”

This year’s festival, which took place from August 7-11, experienced issues on Saturday night when an amulance . He was pronounced dead the next morning at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, on the last day of the festival on Sunday the 11th.

It’s unclear what ultimately contributed to the fatality, but according to BBC, county officials categorized his death as “unexpected.” A spokesperson for the festival issued the following statement:

“With sadness we confirm a man in his 20s died on the evening of Saturday 10 August after attending Boomtown. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those who knew him. We are supporting the police with their inquiries, and with respect for his family, no further comment will be made.”

This year’s festival anticipated an attendance of over 60,000 people. However, this isn’t the first fatality for the festival, with The Mirror reporting the connection of four deaths between 2011 and 2016.

This immersive experience known as Boomtown Festival takes place in Winchester, Hampshire. The South East England music festival is revolutionary for building on its own themes year-after-year, like chapters in a storybook.

In addition to music, the British gathering has intricate set design, interactive theatre performances, and alternate reality games. Throughout Boomtown, festival attendees can choose their adventure with various side quests and smaller stages.

Across the festival’s main stages are just about every genre of music, from electronic and dance music, and beyond. For the 2024 edition, Boomtown booked artists like Pendulum and Skream & Benga as headliners.

According to their website on a page titled “Drug Safety,” the festival expresses that safety and inclusivity are their priorities. The page also includes information about various substances and information about their effects, along with the local legality laws.

Instead of a standard “zero tolerance” policy, Boomtown opts for harm reduction. Their Drugs policy makes their stance through “the four P’s” of Prevent, Protect, Prepare, and Pursue. No official cause of death has been released yet.
