Fred again.. pays tribute to grandfather in Finland show opening

The crowd came for the music, but they left with a piece of Fred again..’s heart.

Fred again.. opened his recent Finland show with a heartfelt tribute to his grandfather, setting an emotional tone for the night as the crowd witnessed a rare moment of vulnerability from the acclaimed and highly talented DJ. A post on Fred Again’s Instagram includes the moment he spoke to the crowd about how he was so happy to share his grandfather’s words with them because he used to live there and absolutely loved it.

The beginning of the caption from the tribute post said, “The Grampa Campbell Finland set opening, been looking forward to getting to open the show with this for months!!” Fred again.. was filled with excitement during the set – in the post’s first video he said while performing, “I can’t tell you how much I love that we started this set with my grandfather. He always talked about how he loved living in Finland.”

The video continued with a clip of Fred again..’s grandfather speaking about how cool it was that he was playing there and spoke highly of the capital of Finland, Helsinki. Fred again..’s grandfather said, “Fred is my grandchild. I lived in Finland for four years when I was young. It’s very nice and fun that Fred is in Helsinki which is probably the most beautiful city in the world.” 

Fred again.. did a 12-slide photo and video dump to share his favorite moments of the “five days in Scandis and beyond” trip. His grandfather was a main focal point but he also shared highlights from his sets and behind-the-scenes clips with his family and friends. One video even briefly showed Skrillex, Four Tet, and him having a funny time.

The vulnerable tribute and overall post got a positive response from fans. One person replied noting his grandfather’s charm and said, “Granpa Campbell the pace we all aspire to be.” Another person chimed in saying, “Unreal set in Helsinki! Loved the speech from your grandpa.”

Fred again.. is known for giving off genuine and personable energy and his tribute was evidence of his dedication to this. He wanted to let the people of Finland know his connection to the country with his family adding to his intriguing and creative work.
