Hacker impersonates Eli Brown and uploads new track to artist’s Spotify without permission

Eli Brown has suggested it was too easy for the hacker to get into his account.

A hacker has impersonated Eli Brown and has uploaded a new track to the artist’s Spotify without permission. On his Instagram story, the artist has expressed confusion about Spotify’s system that would allow this to happen. The DJ has claimed that it’s “crazy how platforms can allow anyone to upload a track pretending to be another artist.”

At a time when one’s digital profile carries significance, this incident has brought forward a spate of questions about security. Though there is perhaps more to the story, Eli Brown’s musical persona has nevertheless been put into jeopardy. Moreover, this situation has required him to do damage control, such as posting his story to inform his fans. 

To the dismay of artists and fans, this has felt like another moment where the musician is lost in the shadow of bigger corporations. Artistry is a musician’s livelihood and passion, so proper security measures and contingency plans on official music platforms should be put in place. Nevertheless, it seems he was quick to address the problem. 

Additionally, it’s important to note that on Spotify, the producer has more than 3 million monthly listeners. Whatever hacker got into his account had addressed quite a large sum of people. Clearly, all the more reason to restructure how songs can be uploaded to an artist’s Spotify profile. 

Well-established in the electronic dance music scene, Eli Brown has constantly contributed to the community at large. The UK native’s techno-house style has led him to burst into the scene. Naturally, he has attracted the limelight and swaths of fans with his pulsating cachet.

The DJ has played at several high-caliber shows like Beyond Wonderland, EDC Las Vegas, Ultra Music Festival, and more. Eli Brown has earned his following with his prolific selection of music. Furthermore, he should maintain that following without any risk of a platform’s security measures.
