Singer Macy Gray claims she uses ‘cocaine and alcohol’ to find tranquility in her life
‘Cocaine and a couple shots.’ Macy Gray describes her healing process.
Macy Gray, 56, has returned to TV as a cast member on MTV’s reality series “The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets.” The “I Try” singer sparked attention with a candid confession about her past drug use and a conversation she allegedly had with rock star Courtney Love.
On the July 23 season premiere, Gray asked fellow cast member Tyler Posey, known from “Teen Wolf,” if he knew who Courtney Love was. “We used to be really close and talked all the time,” Gray said. She then recalled, “I used to do a lot of blow, and during one of our conversations, while we were completely out of it, she told me, ‘The thing about drugs is they bring bad luck. Every time I use them, something bad happens.’”
Later in the show, Gray addressed her views on how narcotics influence her sense of well-being. During a confessional, the “For Colored Girls” actress voiced her annoyance about participating in a “secret mission” guided by a self-proclaimed breathwork facilitator. “Oh god, I’m not into that hippie stuff. I live in L.A., that’s the hippie capital. If I’m healing, that’s not how I do it,” Gray remarked. When asked about her approach to healing, the neo-soul artist replied, “For me, it’s like cocaine and a couple of shots. Pop some edibles, and I’m good. Then just order a pizza, and I’m straight. I don’t need all that other stuff, I’m fine.”
Furthermore, Macy Gray’s comments on “The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets” weren’t the first time she had opened up about her drug use. In a 2014 appearance on “Oprah: Where Are They Now?”, she discussed how fame affected her lifestyle. “My drug habit began while I was on tour,” she shared. “My crew was from England, and they were always smoking hash and had access to top-quality ecstasy. You start experimenting, and before you know it, it becomes something you rely on.”
In an interview from April 2022, Gray stated she was “totally sober” at that stage in her life. She went on to release her album “The Reset” in February 2023, nine months later. Her catalog also includes the triple-platinum album “On How Life Is,” which earned her a Grammy award.
Finally, the latest season of “The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets” features Macy Gray, Chet Hanks, Kim Zolciak, O.T. Genasis, Ally Brooke, Josie Canseco, Tyler Posey, and Johnny Weir.
