Universal Music Group extends partnership with Meta offering monetization opportunities for musicians

Universal Music Group and Meta continue to protect and support artists from copyright infringements, including unauthorized music and AI-generated content.

Universal Music Group and Meta realign their shared vision of encouraging creative and commercial opportunities for UMG artists and Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) songwriters to receive monetization for their music posted on Meta’s social media platforms. This agreement includes Instagram, Facebook, Horizon, Messenger, and Threads.

In addition, the new terms of the agreement will now include WhatsApp, a free messaging app. This will prevent unauthorized music, including AI-generated music, from being shared. Universal Music Group represents artists such as Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Afrojack.

This concern grew to the surface when short-form videos became more mainstream, leaving artists’ music used without monetization. Consequently, UMG became the first major music company to license its recorded music and publish catalogs across Meta’s large ecosystem. Thus, leaving room for an open conversation with how to move forward in this digital age of social media, and artificial intelligence.

Moving forward, Meta will continue to connect artists directly with their fans. Meta has expanded these opportunities where artists can reach larger audiences through channels, broadcasting, and subscriptions.

Yoooo, the homies call me Marz. I am a multidimensional Piscean Latina fairy from Miami-Dade County (no, not Florida). Electronic music has allowed me to appreciate the profound beauty that can be found in finding peace within the chaos. Artists such as Rezz, Skrillex, John Summit, Michael Bibi, and Amtrac blend the two seamlessly, creating a harmonious balance that resonates with me whenever I am on the dancefloor. When I am writing about electronic music, I feel this same balance of peace and chaos moving through me - starting in my hips, filling my heart, and radiating out from my soul. The power of music has brought me to this exact moment, and I only desire that you feel the warmth of the sun through my words.
