Burning Man offers up tickets for general purchase due to low demand after 2023 difficulties
The rising cost of living and the ongoing climate crisis have dampened the celebration, which has consistently sold out every year since 2011.
Despite Burning Man 2024 rapidly approaching, the festival has yet to sell out. Because of this, leading organizers have opened ticket sales to non-registered buyers for the first time. In previous years, tickets have famously sold out within just 30 minutes. However, this year, the festival has yet to sell its full allocation of 73,000 tickets, even though the event kicks off next week in Black Rock Desert, Nevada.
In response, Burning Man has introduced the “OMG Sale,” offering approximately 3,000 additional tickets to those who did not pre-register, along with 1,500 vehicle passes. Burning Man 2024 prices general admission tickets at $575.00 before taxes. Some additional fees include a $30 delivery charge, a $51.75 Nevada Live Entertainment Tax, and a $23.13 credit card processing fee. Optional donations to the Burning Man Project are also available. Vehicle passes cost $150, and other premium ticket options are priced at $1,500 with additional fees.
Marian Goodell, CEO of the Burning Man Project, expressed optimism about the new ticket sale. She stated “Experiencing the awe, inspiration, creativity, and community of Burning Man in Black Rock City is the antidote to today’s societal division and polarization. We are pleased we fulfilled the demand for our earlier sales and now offer greater access to more people as the event nears. This ticket sale is an exciting opportunity to connect more people interested in Burning Man and the arts and culture.”
Last year, Burning Man encountered severe weather that turned the desert terrain into thick mud, stranding thousands of attendees. Festivalgoers sheltered in place, conserved food and water, and avoided walking barefoot in the mud to prevent “playa foot”. A condition caused by the alkaline soil of the dried lake bed. The festival organizers warned against attempting to navigate the mud until the ground dried.
Burning Man 2024 will take place from August 25 to September 2 at Black Rock Desert, Nevada. Tickets for the event are still available for purchase here.
