New LA dance music venue The SUPERMRKT to host Boiler Room, Mayan Warrior, and more
Dance music has found a new home in a former Los Angeles grocery store with The SUPERMRKT, which will host Boiler Room, Mayan Warrior, and more.
Los Angeles is one of the main destinations for dance music in the world, so it’s no surprise when a new space pops up. The latest comes from local event collective Stranger Than; with The SUPERMRKT, a new venue in a former grocery store.
The space has the first wave of bookings for its opening season from September through December. The venue’s architecture includes tall wooden ceilings and skylights for an airy yet rustic feel.
This past May, The SUPERMRKT soft launched with 14-hour Gordo show for 3,000 attendees from 6am-8pm. Stranger Than; intends to continue shows at offbeat hours to cater to a vast crowd, while spotlighting the venue’s natural lighting.
Poised as “around-the-clock-programming,” The SUPERMRKT wants to produce club energy for both early birds and night owls. This warehouse is the answer for restrictions in the US dance scene around timing, while the international scene goes until the early morning.
Up next, the venue will host a wide variety of shows, including the sold-out Nico Moreno show on November 15. Other performances on the calendar include Floating Points, Orbital, DJ Luciano, Moodymann, and Carl Craig.
The SUPERMRKT will also host branded parties, with Boiler Room, plus the Burning Man camp Mayan Warrior party booked on Halloween weekend. The viral meme-meets-clothing-brand Pizzaslime will also host a party at the venue.
Stranger Than;, the event collective behind the venue, is a notable fixture in the Los Angeles dance scene. They produced events all over the county, previously partnering with Boiler Room, Mayan Warrior, and CircoLoco, the Ibiza dance party brand.
Stranger Than; maintains a social media presence, plus a sign-up page for The SUPERMRKT updates. The address for The SUPERMRKT shows the venue’s location on Beverly Boulevard, located between East Hollywood and Koreatown. Ultimately, the space promises DJs, live music, dancing, merch, and food trucks, with a capacity between 1,200 and 3,200 attendees.
