Drum & bass and jungle legend DJ Randall dies at age 54
Dj Randall, a leader and pioneer in Drum & Bass and Jungle passed away on July 31st at 54.
Hailing from London, one of the biggest pioneers of drum & bass and jungle, DJ Randall, passed away on July 31st. He was 54. Leaving behind a strong legacy, he has paved the way for fellow artists in the drum & bass genre as well as inspired the newer generation of artists.
Having been influential in the game since the early 1990s, DJ Randall was most recognized for his dynamic DJ sets and production skills. He had a reputation for deep understanding of the genre and for pushing boundaries within drum and bass. As one of the early adopters of the genre, he was able to hone his skills and exceed expectations from fans and artists alike.
Over his career, he gained the nickname, “too hot to handle,” after spinning records on his underground radio station ‘Centreforce,’ soon after starting a role at a record shop where he spun all day. His infectious energy pulled patrons and fans from the street, quickly creating a hub for dance at the shop.
DJ Randall soon went on to host events and headline shows. Aiding in helping popularize the new genre fellow artists shared deep cuts with him to play out. One of those tracks was “Terminator,” which helped propel him into the spotlight. Giving back to the community that supported him, he hosted classes back at the very shop where he had begun his career.
The loss of DJ Randall’s talent, ingenuity, spirit, and sense of community marks a sad day in the drum & bass scene. As a founding father of the genre, his shoes will be hard to fill, yet, the consistent inspiration he radiated is still palpable in the community. DJ Randall’s spirit will live on in the next generation of artists to master drum & bass.
