Who is TESTPILOT?

fAN FAVORITE DEADMAU5 COLLABORATES WITH DEADMAU5 TO BEGET testpilot.

Eminent DJ and producer deadmau5 has refocused on his solo project TESTPILOT to mark the next era in his esteemed career. The project is an off-branch of deamau5’s usual hypnotic house, but darker and more emblematic of Berlin, edgy techno. On July 12th, 2024, he released the single ‘Wet’ from the project, which showcases the genre but makes it feel akin to deamau5’s circulative flow. The track is eight minutes long, similar to a lot of deadmau5’s signature tracks, such as the nine-minute track “I Remember.”

TESTPILOT also dropped two other tracks titled ‘Sunspot (White Space Conflict),’ with one being a remix by Pig & Dan. These tracks follow a similar through-line and are also minimalist techno. The Instagram for TESTPILOT recently shared news of a forthcoming EP ‘SOME EP.’ The top of the EP states deadmau5 / TESTPILOT, insinuating a collaboration between the two different DJs, although they are the same person.

Fans of deadmau5 and mau5trap, his record label, reacted to the new collaboration positively. Instagram user theremiightbecoffee vocalized, “I’m so glad that Joel is collaborating with Joel.” Another fan named danielbastamusic commented, “There are 3 things certain in life – death, taxes, and that the mau5 always slaps.”

Not only has deadmau5 been a pillar in the EDM music industry for years, but so has his label mau5trap. The record label was founded in 2008 and has signed some of the most recognizable names in electronic music, notably Chris Lake, Excision, Getter, i_o, Kill the Noise, Reza, Tinlicker, among many others. Many of these artists, such as Excision and Rezz, went on to establish their own labels, SUBSIDIA and HypnoVizion Records respectively, and sign a slew of new and talented artists, continuing the cycle of of support, giving opportunities to up-and-coming artists and projects.

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
