John Summit shares 12-track debut album with collaborations from Elderbrook, Sub Focus, and Kaskade
Tech House’s Reigning “It Guy,” John SUmmit, has dropped his first full-length album ‘Comfort In Chaos.’
John Summit is no stranger to chaos, seeming to live by the Lady Gaga quote “No sleep! Bus, club, ‘nother club, ‘nother club, plane, next place. No sleep. No fear.” This reigns true after a massive past few years in his steady yet rapidly impressive rise to global stardom. Summit has crushed huge headline shows, sold-out arenas, and a Las Vegas residence to top it all off. He is now the proud artist behind a 12-track full-length album titled ‘Comfort in Chaos’.
The album starts strong with the title track, “Comfort in Chaos.” Undoubtedly, this track has a very similar feel to Kaskade’s early 2010s sound on his album ‘Atmosphere’. This is surely no coincidence, as Kaskade is one of Summit’s main influences and mentors. Next up is “Fear” with Paige Cavell, a techno-inspired ballad with the potential to be among the album’s biggest hits.
Summit escapes his typical reality on “Stay With Me” with Of The Trees. This track is a new sound for both artists, alternating between tech-house (Summit) and experimental bass (Of The Trees). This track is followed by Summit’s recent hit, “Shiver” featuring Hayla, which has widely defined the era of sound that Summit has occupied for the past two years.
Next is “Eat the Bass,” a massive hit at his Coachella performance this past spring. Perfectly timed after some high-energy tracks is “comedown,” aptly named for the bender king of music. Slow and melodic, it radiates gratitude and encapsulates the equal excitement of wandering through a festival and the comfort of chilling on the couch after a memorable night.
Furthermore, Summit pulls Kaskade and Julia Church for “Resonate.” After multiple B2Bs together, it is clear that Kaskade and his padawan John Summit have electric chemistry. With vocals from Elderbrook, “Give Me Anything” perfectly marries Elderbrooks mellow vibe and Summit’s high-energy aura. “Where You Are” is next, an unquestionably golden track from Summit.
The afro-house-inspired single “Undo” would sound magical at a Keinemusik set, with the mid-song fade to build and bassline remaining throughout the entire track. Featuring drum-and-bass artist Sub Focus and vocalist Julia Church, “Go Back” is a beautiful ode to the DnB styling with the yearning lyrics Summit has stayed true to during his career.
Finally, Summit rounds out the album with an undisputed Exron favorite, “palm of my hands.” Thinking more, this song will resonate with most of Summit’s listeners. “I’ve got no master plan. But I know, I’ve got the world in the palm of my hands.” There is surely no better way to cap John Summit’s ‘Comfort in Chaos’ than with this beautiful stutter track.
This album is a massive undertaking from the artist, who previously stated “he would never release an album” back in 2021. But here, Summit proves his past self wrong, as this album is filled with a plethora of special gems.
