Tony McGuinness to release 27-year long project ‘Salt’

Above & Beyond DJ has announced album 27-years in the making.

Tony McGuinness has announced 27-year long project album ‘Salt.’ The English native has shifted his usual subject matter in lyrics to more autobiographical content. Nearly three decades since he started making music, McGuinness has slowly chipped away at this project released this Friday, July 12th.

Interwoven throughout his career, the producer has let his notion of self float to the surface in his music. While it seems McGuinness had shown reticence when it came to autobiographical song making, his delays have proven to be fruitful. ‘Salt’ comes over the course of a 27 year wait, aging as properly as a pungent wine.

Moreover, ‘Salt’ will sit atop of an already illustrious career, as Tony McGuinness has experienced great heights of success with the group Above & Beyond. With two other English music finatics, Above & Beyond was formed in 2000 with McGuinness, Jono Grant, and Paavo Siljamäki. Undoubtedly, this group has provided the British producer with a sense of confidence and knowhow.

In his promotional post on Instagram, McGuinness has directly remarked on this stark transition to writing about “his life.” He has started to walk down a much more intimate path with his music. When it’s finally released this week, fans are sure to be poised, at the ready.

Considering all the monumental benchmarks in his career, ‘Salt’ has arrived at an interesting time – more than two decades after his first start. Above & Beyond have been the owners of both Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep. Hosting artists like Lane 8, Ben Böhmer, and many more, McGuinness has made a lasting imprint on the EDM scene.

In many ways, the English locale has redefined the EDM scene with a mix of soft, ethereal beats to more explosive, pulsating rhythms. Headlining many festivals like Tomorrowland (with Above & Beyond), he has always projected a unique aura. At the very least, McGuinness has made the 27-year-long wait bearable with his music.
