M.I.A. launches fashion line with tin foil hat to “block WiFi waves”

M.I.A. has revealed OHMNI, her fashion line focused on protecting the body from technology using pure silver and metals.

The artist announced the brand in May and has emphasized what the clothes do for those wearing it. M.I.A. has said the fashion line prevents the body from being affected by electromagnetic fields. It has claimed to protect reproductive organs and block WiFi, GPS, and other radiation using metals like copper and nickel.

OHMNI has offered over 30 clothing items ranging from ponchos to boxer shorts. Buyers have been able to sport the line from head to toe with accessories like “brain protection” durags and “anti trace” phone cases. Different t-shirts, outerwear, and various styles of pants have also been made available.

Known for her streetwear-influenced style, the clothing line draws inspiration from current trends. The line has coined itself as the “First ever streetwear for the modern information era. Offering protection for all that seek it.”

OHMNI and its mission have had mixed reviews with some saying they support the clothing’s concept and others questioning the scientific evidence provided. It addressed the criticism at the end of the website’s information section reading, “I could be a genius, I could be a cheat.” Many noted the high price point and inaccessibility of the line.

M.I.A. has been vocal about her socio-political stances long before OHMNI with her hit song “Paper Planes” discussing her experience as an immigrant and refugee. She has used her artistry, through her music or style, to make stances on her beliefs.

She has been on best-dressed lists, released collections with New York Fashion Week, and worked with designers like Donatella Versace. OHMNI is another showcase of M.I.A’s style and what she values. The fashion line is available to pre-order now.
