Ookay celebrates 100 million streams on iconic 2016 track ‘Thief’

“Thief” by Ookay has hit 100 million streams on Spotify in just 8 years, bringing a flood of memories for the artist.

He had shared several of his favorite moments since the song came out, the first being a clip of him performing the song with saxophonist Kenny G at EDC. The next had captured him and Marshmello dancing on stage while they played. The final videos had shown Ookay on stage at festivals, in intimate settings, and in a stadium while singing. 

Apart from Spotify, the song’s music video has gained over 15 million views on YouTube and peaked at 27 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart. Fans had shared their favorite memories with “Thief” with many saying they still listen to the track in 2024.

“Thank you so much for changing my life. From hearing this song played by friends to seeing it played at weddings, I never thought in my wildest dreams that a song can move people like this that I made in the comfort of my home. It’s such a blessing and I’m forever grateful,” he wrote about the milestone. 

Abraham Laguna, known as Ookay, has been making music for almost 15 years. The DJ quickly gained support from labels like Spinnin’ Records and Dim Mak when he began in releasing tracks in 2010. The DJ has also teamed up with producers like Flux Pavillion, Elohim, and more.

Since the release of “Thief,” Ookay has released two albums and over a dozen singles and collaborations. The multigenre artist has been open about his mental health battles and overall created a supportive community.

Ookay continues to grow as an artist and recently signed to Active Talent Agency. Celebrate “Thief” hitting 100 million streams and watch the music video for the hit track by Ookay.
