Ibiza Global Festival slammed for charging DJs €5,000 to perform
The Ibiza-based festival is set to return to the main beach of Sant Antoni, Playa d D’Arena for its third consecutive year with a price tag.
Most festivals and nightclubs are built on the foundation of inviting and paying artists to perform. This includes exposure, promotion, travel, and accommodation. Ibiza Global Festival is an event series that Ibiza Global Radio has curated with headliner producers and DJs like Luciano, Amémé, Nic Fanciulli, Roger Sanchez, and Alex Kennon.
After receiving an email from the Ibiza festival, Arnaud Le Texier takes the situation to social media, by posting a screenshot of an email from Ibiza Global Radio’s marketing associate, Serena. Furthermore, the email informs the DJ that the price to play at the festival is €5,000 to perform.
In addition, Arnaud Le Texier expresses his frustration, hopelessness, and disappointment towards the Ibiza Global Festival and the electronic music industry. The artist comments on how tired he is of the electronic music scene and “the bouffons around”. Furthermore, Arnaud expresses his opposition to festivals charging artists to perform at festivals by explaining how his experience with similar situations is getting worse,
The marketing associate, Serena, continues to justify the cost of the performance slot. Furthermore, Serena explains in the email how the hefty price of €5,000 will include the artist’s slot time and the social media promotion given before, during, and after the festival.
Arnaud Le Texier receives support from his peers like Lars Behrenroth, a German DJ and producer, by confirming the email with his screenshot on Facebook. Likewise, Lars mocks the email with the caption “See, everyone can play Ibiza…”. The producer and DJ further expresses his frustration towards Ibiza Global Festival, while jokingly adding that he should get into the promoter business.
