Peggy Gou releases first-ever album ‘I Hear You’ inspired by 90’s house music
Peggy Gou has released her debut album ‘I Hear You’ with 10 tracks highlighting her minimal house and ability to draw inspiration from other genres.
The South Korean DJ and vocalist has been active in dance music for over a decade, making the release of ‘I Hear You’ a significant moment in her career. The album has captured her core as an artist with songs like “Back To You” and “Seoulsi Peggygou (서울시페기구)” being sang in Korean. The collection of tracks was introduced with “Your Art,” a trance track that had been focused around a speech about remaining present.
The album has singles that had been released before the album drop like “I Believe In Love Again” with Lenny Kravitz, “(It Goes Like) Nanana,” and “Lobster Telephone.” New songs have been featured including “All That,” a Spanish collaboration with Villano Antillano, and the disco-inspired “I Go.”
‘I Hear You’ ends with “Purple Horizon” and its lead single “1+1=11.” The 1990s rave-inspired record flows through various styles of house music while remaining cohesive. Of the release, Peggy Gou wrote, “[The album] represents so much more than my first album, I’ve dreamt about this for over a decade.”
“Everything I’ve worked for has been towards achieving this goal,” she continued. Peggy Gou has no plans to slow down after this release, though. She revealed that a music video for “Lobster Telephone” is coming out soon and recently spoke at Art Basel.
Peggy Gou began officially releasing music in 2014 and began playing shows three years later. In 2019, she founded Gudu Records, an independent record label. Along with producing music and hundreds of performances, the DJ is also a style icon with a fashion label.
The multi-faceted producer has been one to watch and can now cross off the milestone of releasing an LP. The ‘I Hear You,’ the debut album from Peggy Gou, is out on all streaming platforms.
