Halsey claims she is ‘lucky to be alive’ during battle against Lupus

After releasing the first song from her new album, Halsey has shared that she was diagnosed with lupus and leukemia in 2022.

At the beginning of the week, Halsey had announced that she would release the first single from her fifth album. “The End” had shared the story of the singer’s experience with falling in love while navigating the diagnoses and treatments for lupus and leukemia. The vulnerable song lets listeners into the last two years of her life.

Halsey had shared more about her lupus and leukemia diagnosis after receiving heartwarming support from the music community. She had explained that both illnesses are “currently being managed or in remission.” She had also written about her excitement to eventually get back on stage.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes the body’s immune system to attack its tissues. Halsey confirmed that she was also diagnosed with T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders, a group of lymphoid tumors that can cause other medical conditions including leukemia. Both can require medical treatment, which was one of the main themes of “The End.”

Halsey shared videos of her in treatment in a post following the release of her newest song. She was shown saying positive affirmations and created compilations of her time in the medical centers. She had captioned the post, “Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive.”

“Short story long, I wrote an album,” she continued. While battling a chronic illness, Halsey is a mom, and partner, and still creating music that resonates. She has used music as an outlet for over a decade and shared that her upcoming album will be a culmination of songs written over the last two years.

Halsey’s latest single “The End” is out on all streaming platforms. No further details about her fifth album have been released, but more are to come.
