Shia LaBeouf’s red carpet comeback sparks controversy amid FKA Twigs allegations
Shia LaBeouf’s resurgence has resurfaced abuse allegations from ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs
After stepping out at the Cannes Film Festival, Shia LaBeouf abuse allegations resurface from FKA Twigs. His red carpet comeback was to promote his new movie Megalopolism, alongside Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, and Giancarlo Esposito. The film is Francis Ford Coppola’s first film in thirteen years and was said to be one of the most talked about films due to several people walking out, booing, and others hailing it as a work of genius.
But, the wasn’t the only controversy as another topic of conversation was the resurgence of Shia LaBeouf who three years ago was accused with an assault lawsuit. The claims of the lawsuit include sexual battery, infliction of emotional distress, and assault made by ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs. She has claimed that LaBeouf headbutted, and threw her against a car. She recalls waking up from LaBeouf choking her threatening to crash the car they were driving in.
The couple split in December 2020 after beginning their relationship in 2018. Years later in 2021, FKA Twigs filed a lawsuit accusing him of “relentless” physical and emotional abuse throughout their relationship. In response to the lawsuit, LaBeouf wrote, “Many of these allegations are not true.” He continues saying he has accepted that he owes her, “the opportunity to air their statements publicly and accept accountability for those things I have done.”
The lawsuit is meant to go to court in October 2024. FKA Twigs has even discussed the long-lasting impacts of LaBeouf’s abuse. The 36-year-old musician recalled in a British Vogue interview that she has been dealing with PTSD. Admitting the PTSD lasted longer than expected, she described that, “being abused changes the whole of your nervous system,” she went on. “Because my window of tolerance is now much smaller than it used to be, my body manifests stress in quite extreme ways — it really shows me when it’s upset.”
Though he did not name FKA Twigs when he was a guest on the podcast REAL ONES with Jon Bernthal, he described his accuser as a “saint” and implied that she “saved [his] fucking life” by speaking out. He also admitted that, “[he] hurt that woman.”
LaBeouf currently is married to ‘X’ star Mia Goth, a film directed and written by Alison Wonderland’s husband Ti West. Goth and LaBeouf share their first child together who was born in March 2022.
