Las Vegas artist Stevie Mac Drowns at Lightning in a Bottle Festival
Steve MacWithey has drowned at Lightning in a Bottle, leaving a profound impact on the Las Vegas arts community.
Steve MacWithey, known affectionately as Stevie Mac, tragically drowned while attending the Lightning in a Bottle festival over the weekend. MacWithey, a prominent figure in the Las Vegas arts community and beyond, was associated with EPYK Entertainment and Mr. Daddy’s Cabaret. His untimely death has left a void in the hearts of many who knew him.
According to Las Vegas DJ and producer Brett Rubin, MacWithey swam out into Buena Vista Lake during the festival and then went underwater. Despite the efforts of on-site medics, they were unable to resuscitate him. Rubin expressed his grief and fond memories on Instagram, highlighting their 15-year friendship filled with stories, parties, and laughter.
The organizers of Lightning in a Bottle issued a heartfelt statement following the incident, expressing their sorrow. They acknowledged the distressing event and sent their condolences to MacWithey’s family and friends, emphasizing the importance of respecting their privacy during this difficult time.
Stevie Mac was well-known for his role as a founding member of EPYK Entertainment, a promotional company established in 2012. EPYK aimed to organize traditional raves, offering a safe space for everyone to dance and connect away from the commercialized nightlife of the Strip. The group embodied inclusivity, welcoming individuals from all walks of life.
In addition to his work with EPYK, MacWithey was a familiar face at various events as The Man in the Mirror, characterized by his unique suit covered in mirror facets. In 2021, he launched Mr. Daddy’s Cabaret, a showclub known for its edgy and engaging performances, including Dirty Bingo nights. MacWithey was also a standup comedian, celebrated for his sharp wit.
Plans for memorial services in Las Vegas and Florida are underway, with Brett Rubin working closely with MacWithey’s family. These memorials are expected to take place at the end of June and the beginning of July. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help cover the costs associated with these tributes.
