What to know about Skrillex and Fred Again’s surprise pop up rave in San Francisco this weekend

Fred Again.. has invited Skrillex to join him for a pop-up rave in San Francisco ahead of his sold-out shows at Stanford’s Frost Amphitheater.

It’s a big year for Fred Again.., who released the album ‘USB’ and secured a Grammy win. Next up, the London-born musician will take over the Bay Area with a handful of shows, including a pop-up rave with Skrillex and a rumored afterparty.

One week ago, Fred announced he would bring his live show to San Francisco—only to reveal a location that’s 45 minutes south of the city’s 7×7 limits. The three nights of shows at Stanford University’s Frost Amphitheater went on sale the next day but quickly sold out.

Fans expressed disappointment, so Fred shared that he was working on something special for those who missed out. On Friday, Skrillex joined the conversation by revealing the news via X, where he shared they have so much new music. He continued on by expressing that throwing a rave in San Francisco would be how they test it out.

Speculation buzzed around where the duo, who have an album in the works, would play within San Francisco’s 7-mile radius. Rumors swirled on the internet, but nothing would be confirmed until the official news dropped on Sunday.

Fred Again.. teased via Instagram Stories that he would be performing at “a national historic landmark.” That afternoon, he revealed details for “Skrillex Again..,” taking place at San Francisco’s Civic Centre Plaza on June 1.

Tickets went on sale Monday morning, with a chaotic presale and a dismal general on-sale that eventually sold out. The producer surprised his Discord server with a link to additional tickets as a thanks for their support. Unfortunately, those tickets have now sold out as well.

Fred Again.. and Skrillex’s collaboration first stunned fans when they hosted New York City shows with Four Tet in 2023. The trio were added as last-minute additions to close out the second weekend of Coachella that year. Sadly, Four Tet will not be performing with them this weekend, as the musician will be in Paris for a festival.

This string of shows marks four sold-out performances for Fred Again.., which tracks the musician’s impact in the Bay Area. His set at Portola Festival’s inaugural event in 2022 created mayhem with fence jumpers and overly packed crowds. As for Skrillex, the producer also played at San Francisco’s Portola, with a closing set in 2023 that generated a record-breaking number of noise complaints.

It’s unclear if other artists will appear on the billing for the rave, which has music going from 6:30-10 pm. However, there are whispers of an unconfirmed afterparty later that night… stay tuned for more intel.
