EDC Las Vegas attendee shares ‘terrifying’ experience involving fan overdose

Narcan helped save a man’s life in the crowd at EDC Las Vegas who was experiencing an overdose.

A brave attendee of EDC Las Vegas, Jonte Paviel, shared his harrowing experience of helping a man who was overdosing and unconscious in the crowd at Cosmic Meadow in a video. Jonte and his friend Austin allegedly encountered the man overdosing during LSDREAM on Friday, May 17th. They noticed iPhone flashlights in the crowd—a sign of a medical emergency. Without hesitation, they moved towards the commotion and found a man lying lifeless on the ground, alone and unresponsive.

Despite never having handled a medical emergency before, Jonte and Austin tried to help. They assessed the situation, suspecting an overdose. Checking his pupils, pulse, and breathing confirmed their suspicion. Fortunately, they had Narcan, a medication that temporarily reverses the effects of an overdose, which they administered repeatedly to keep the man alive. Each dose briefly revived him, but he soon lapsed back into an overdose.

Jonte desperately sought help, running to a nearby security guard who allegedly was unhelpful and unable to contact medics. With no other options, Jonte returned to the scene, where the group continued to administer Narcan. Eventually, medics arrived, placing the man in a wheelchair and taking him away. The outcome of the man’s condition remains unknown, leaving Jonte in shock and struggling to process the event for the rest of the festival.

The experience profoundly impacted Jonte changing their perspective on the importance of being prepared for such emergencies. He emphasized the need for festival-goers to carry Narcan and be educated about its use, urging others to visit End Overdose booths at events.

The video encouraged everyone to be prepared, be vigilant, and help spread awareness to potentially save lives. Jonte also tagged End Overdose in his video along with having the brand’s name in the video’s text overlay. End Overdose hands out Narcan to people at its festival booths in case of emergency.

You can also learn how to properly administer Narcan at the End Overdose booths. The Narcan is completely free and End Overdose can ship it across the county for free as well. A demonstration of how to administer Narcan is below:
