Empire of the Sun journey from reality to fantasy on 4th Album ‘Ask That God’
Electro-pop duo Empire of the Sun has announced that their fourth album, ‘Ask That God,’ will be released on July 26.
The wait is over for electro-pop fans, as Empire of the Sun have announced that their newest album will be arriving this summer. ‘Ask That God’ is the fourth studio album for the Australian duo, as a follow up to ‘Two Vines’ (2016).
Eight years later, Emperor Steele and Lord Littlemore come together for “Ask That God,” dropping on July 26. The twelve-track release has already previewed some music, with two singles shared so far. “Changes” notes a new era for the duo, with smooth, soulful lyrics over a funk-forward beat. “Music on the Radio” is a groovy ear worm that marks the duo’s growth from indie roots to the domination of the electro-pop dance floor.
Empire of the Sun first shot into the spotlight with their 2008 smash single, “Walking on a Dream,” which also shared the title of their debut album. With a synth-heavy sound and ethereal vocals, Empire of the Sun bridged the gap between the indie and electronic genres. The eponymous release helped the duo pioneer a new wave of music, along with peers like MGMT and Passion Pit.
The band’s dreamy aura captured listeners across the world, with ‘Ice On The Dune’ as the sophomoric follow up. In 2019, Empire of the Sun then celebrated a decade of ‘Walking on a Dream’ with a special anniversary album. However, 2016 is the last time the band released an album of all new music.
Last year the band toured across their home country of Australia, with just one performance outside of the continent. They played at Just Like Heaven, the Los Angeles festival that celebrates early aughts indie nostalgia. Currently, the duo have no scheduled tour dates for this year. However, that could all change once Empire of the Sun drops ‘Ask That God’ via Capitol Records.
