Italy opens first-ever disco museum inside the legendary Cocoricò pyramid

Italy’s vibrant cultural landscape has just gained a new dimension with the unveiling of MUDI, the country’s first disco museum.

Having opened its doors on May 19, 2024, within the confines of the iconic Cocoricò club in Riccione, MUDI promises to have been a groundbreaking fusion of electronic music, modern art, and sensory experiences.

Nestled within the enigmatic Pyramid structure, Cocoricò has served as the perfect host for this avant-garde venture, where pulsating beats and contemporary art have converged to create an unparalleled immersive experience. MUDI has aimed to redefine the traditional museum concept, bringing together performers, artists, designers, and perfumers under one roof for an exploration of culture unlike any other.

The inaugural celebration of MUDI has promised to be a sensory feast, with a lineup of performances that have defied convention. Starting at 6pm on Sunday, May 19th, entry to the event has been free, offering attendees an opportunity to immerse themselves in a night of artistic exploration.

The evening kicked off with a sensory performance by multi-talented artist Filippo Sorcinelli in the Pyramid’s legendary Ciao Sex bathroom. Accompanied by the Salò collective, known for their avant-garde soundscapes, the event has set the stage for an unforgettable night of artistic expression.

Adding another layer of intrigue, Italy’s leading erotic brand, MySecretCase, has brought a blend of sexual education and live entertainment to the event. Additionally, the documentary ‘Cocoricò Tapes’ has offered insight into the venue’s vibrant history, while live poster art by Sara Leghissa and a transformation of a secret room by Collettivo Colore have further elevated the experience.

The grand finale, ‘Bring it to the Runway,’ has showcased the energy and talent of the Italian ballroom scene, celebrating freedom of expression and self-determination in a spectacular display of voguing, runway, and lip-sync challenges.

MUDI has boasted a permanent art exhibition featuring works by prominent Italian artists such as Abraxass, David Pompili, and Sara Leghissa, among others. Carefully curated to highlight Italy’s rich artistic heritage, the exhibition has offered visitors a dynamic visual experience. Some artworks have been available for purchase, with proceeds reinvested to commission new pieces, ensuring a continuous evolution of artistic offerings.

MUDI has not been just a one-time event but an ongoing experience that has unfolded every evening at Cocoricò. By seamlessly blending music and visual art, MUDI has aimed to captivate visitors and stimulate their senses with unexpected artistic encounters.

Conceived by Cocoricò’s advertising agency, Unfollow Advertising, and curated by creative director Mike Pagliarulo, MUDI has represented a collaboration with the entire Cocoricò staff. Supported by the Emilia-Romagna grant for digital business transitions, MUDI will soon launch its digital counterpart—a virtual museum experience aimed at democratizing access to culture and art on a global scale.

As Italy’s cultural landscape continues to evolve, MUDI stands as a testament to the country’s enduring creativity and innovation, offering a glimpse into the intersection of music, art, and nightlife like never before.
